WTF is Nutrigenomics?!

While we all can recognize that food has physiological impacts - think back to that stomach ache you got after eating too much halloween candy as a kid - but did you know that it doesn't stop there, at the organ level. Food actually has the power to turn certain genes "on" or "off", ultimately influencing our perception of wellbeing, happiness, and energy at any given moment. With this in mind, the Veggie Vault has formed a foundation rooted in nutrigenomics, hoping to empower others to regain control of their health.

Nutrigenomics, also referred to as Nutritional Genomics, is an emerging field of science focusing on the relationship between the human genome, nutrition, lifestyle factors, and health. Forming the precipice of the genome-food interface, nutrigenomics analyzes the reciprocal interactions among genes and nutrition, at the molecular level, ultimately aiding in the personalization of health. In doing so, nutrigenomic researchers hope to flip our longstanding medical paradigm on its head, changing the current "one pill fits all" approach to one that emphasizes human individuality.

About TDP

Here at The Decode Project, we believe in science-backed integrative wellness - the impact of the mind, the body, and the soul - minus all the BS. With a foundation rooted in the notion that "food is medicine", we are using the power of plants to change the food system, and what it means to be well, on a global scale.

Following graduation from a standard undergraduate Cell and Molecular Biology program, Morgan Heisey has set out to change the definition of optimal health - beginning at the level of genes. Using an integrative approach that recognizes and merges the power of human physiology, one's environment, and internal thought systems together, Ms. Heisey educates others on the genetic benefits of whole food nutrition, for the betterment of public health. Given the current state of our food system and chronic disease epidemic, Ms. Heisey also uses this approach to assist individuals as they navigate the murky marketing of the food industry giants - helping you determine true fact from food fiction.

Education

Having graduated magna cum laude from West Chester University of PA in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in cell and molecular biology, Ms. Heisey recently earned her master's degree in nutrition and integrative health from the Maryland University of Integrative Health in December 2020. Now, she is completing an internship with Dr. Dana Elia of Fusion Integrative Health & Wellness while studying for her board exams, hoping to receive Clinical Nutrition Specialist (CNS) licensure in the summer of 2021.
